The co-operative grades and markets close to 3 million pounds of raw wool each year; the majority of this coming from Québec, Ontario and Alberta.
Each of the three general classes of wool (fine, medium and coarse) are sold wherever the best prices are available.
Wool is received directly from the producer by way of truck or rail from across Canada.
It is then graded according to type classification (micron), quality and method of preparation.
The Wool Grader grades each fleece by hand at the Carleton Place warehouse, Monday to Friday, year round.
After grading, the wool is pressed into 1000 - 1200 LB bales, cored tested and then sold to domestic & global markets for the best price available.
When you market your wool clip through the Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Limited (CCWG), you are partnering with a producer-owned co-operative that has proudly served Canadian sheep producers since 1918.
As a shareholder-driven organization, CCWG operates with the interests of its members at the forefront. The advantages of collective marketing ensure that your wool is professionally handled, objectively graded, and marketed both domestically and internationally in the most effective and cost-efficient manner possible.
All wool sale proceeds are returned directly to growers, less a minimal operating cost required to sustain the co-operative’s services. CCWG manages the collection, trucking, grading, baling, and marketing of wool on behalf of sheep producers across Canada, providing access to global markets that individual growers may not otherwise reach independently.
Producers benefit from a convenient national network of wool collection depots and livestock supply centres. Wool sacks are readily available through these locations and licenced operators, ensuring ease of preparation and shipment at shearing time.
In addition to wool marketing services, CCWG offers a comprehensive line of livestock supplies, animal health products, and identification equipment at competitive prices. Canada-wide mail and courier services ensure timely access to supplies.
CCWG actively supports 4H, sheep and fleece shows across the country, contributing to industry promotion and producer engagement. The co-operative also invests in research and development initiatives aimed at expanding markets and creating innovative products made from Canadian wool.
Year after year, growers are assured fair market value for their product through a transparent and accountable marketing system. Membership in the co-operative provides access to accrued service and discount benefits, while offering producers a voice within an organization formed to protect and advance their interests.
CCWG remains committed to being a supportive, informative, and producer-focused centre — welcoming your membership, participation, and input as part of Canada’s wool industry.
