The LaMancha goat was developed in the United States and has been established in Canada since 1970. The breed was refined to combine strong dairy performance with practical meat qualities, making it a true dual-purpose goat suitable for a variety of farm operations.
LaManchas are best known for their extremely short ears, which are a defining characteristic of the breed. They are widely recognized for their calm and gentle temperament, making them easy to handle and well suited to family farms and commercial dairies alike. LaManchas are strong milk producers and are capable of producing up to six quarts of quality milk per day under proper management. In addition to their dairy strengths, they produce a fine meat carcass, with meat quality comparable to that of the Nubian.
LaMancha goats are raised primarily for milk production but also offer solid meat value, making them ideal for dual-purpose operations, homesteads, and diversified farms.
The LaMancha is valued for its steady temperament, reliable milk yield, and adaptability. Its combination of dairy strength and meat quality continues to make it a practical and efficient choice for Canadian producers.
