Originating in Finland, the Finnsheep, or Finnish Landrace, is well adapted to a rugged climate. The University of Manitoba imported Finnsheep to Canada in 1966.
Finns are a prolific breed and reach sexual maturity at 4-8 months of age. Mature ewes average 3 or more vigorous lambs per lambing and demonstrate excellent maternal and milking characteristics. Rams are active breeders. Finnsheep have been used extensively to improve lambing percentages in crossbreeding programs. They have contributed prolificacy and maternal characteristics in the development of successful breeds like the Polypay, Outaouais Arcott and the Rideau Arcott breeds. Finnsheep lambs produce a lean, meaty carcass.
North American Finns are usually white; however, they can also be black, grey or brown.

La Finnoise est une race prolifique qui atteint sa maturité sexuelle vers l'âge de 4 à 8 mois. Les brebis adultes ont, en moyenne, 3 agneaux vigoureux ou plus par agnelage et démontrent d'excellentes qualités maternelles et de production laitière. Les béliers sont très actifs en période de reproduction. La Finnoise a été très utilisée afin d'augmenter le pourcentage d'agnelage des brebis dans le cadre de programmes de croisements. Elle a contribué au développement de races aujourd'hui connues, telles que la Polypay, l'Arcott Outaouais et l'Arcott Rideau, en transmettant ses aptitudes maternelles et sa prolificité. Les agneaux finnois produisent une carcasse maigre et bien remplie.
Les Finnois nord-américains sont généralement blancs; cependant, ils peuvent aussi être noirs, gris ou bruns.
